About the Wetlands Board

In plain words

Lawrence Liesfeld has applied to put in 70 linear feet of riprap revetment, a rock barrier, along the shoreline at Cockrells Creek and 103 Mollys Lane.1 The request is Application No. 26-0161, and the Wetlands Board took it up on April 14, 2026.2 Bryan McDearmon, agent for the owner, described the project and noted 2 sections of riprap.2 Albert Fisher said both of those areas were severely undercut, and McDearmon said a living shoreline was not considered due to the trees and boat traffic.2 There were no objections, and Albert Fisher made a motion to approve the project as submitted for three years.2

How a wetlands permit is decided

Work in tidal wetlands and along the shoreline, such as riprap, bulkheads and sills, needs a permit. The county's Wetlands Board decides these applications after an advertised public hearing.

Applications are also filed with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, which assigns the application number used to follow a request.

The law: Va. Code § 28.2-1302 (Adoption of wetlands zoning ordinance; terms of ordinance). This describes the general process, not this decision.
