Where this page comes from

Every amount is from a motion the Board of Supervisors approved, as its minutes record it; each change links to the meeting where it was decided, and from there to the minutes. County Voice sorts each change by the motion’s own words: a supplemental appropriation adds money to the year’s budget; a transfer moves money between accounts and leaves the total as it was; a quarterly appropriation for the School Board releases money already in the adopted budget.

An item that took several motions stating different amounts (a transfer, then the appropriation of it) is listed but not added to the totals, so nothing is counted twice or guessed at. The department is taken from the item’s title on the agenda. The adopted budget’s own line items aren’t in the minutes, only its total.

Each year’s top shows the Board’s own budget motions, word for word: the county budget, the school board’s budget, and the appropriations resolution, which authorizes the spending (some years in part, the rest appropriated later). They’re read from the minutes of the Board’s budget season, including the years before the other records County Voice reads begin. An approval the Board later rescinded stays in the list, marked, and isn’t counted; a motion that only mentions money (a plan to finance, a grant application, another body’s budget) is listed under the year’s other decisions.
