Something wrong here?

If you know something on this page is wrong, say so. A person at County Voice reads each one. One that checks out is corrected here, with the date. The county’s and the state’s own records aren’t changed.

Never shown on the site, and not used for anything else.

Disagreeing with a decision isn’t a correction. To be heard on one, see what’s coming up.

How the county budget works

The county's fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. The Board of Supervisors adopts a budget and appropriates money before the year begins.

During the year the Board changes it: supplemental appropriations, transfers between accounts, and budget amendments. An amendment that exceeds one percent of the total expenditures in the adopted budget must be advertised and given a public hearing before the Board adopts it.

The law: Va. Code § 15.2-2503 (Time for preparation and approval of budget); Va. Code § 15.2-2507 (Amendment of budget). This describes the general process, not this decision.
